SIEGE of RATISBON - 1809 - Napoleonic Wars : an incident during the hard fought siege of the Austrian town by French troops under Marshall Lannes, which was watched by Napoleon himself. A breach was made in the walls but the attackers were falling back under heavy fire when Lannes himself grabbed a scaling ladder and cried " I will show you that your General is still a Grenadier " The French took the town. my ref: 12961 from Cassells History of England-circa 1890
